The dog SMITTY in the movie is a homeless dog from a house foreclosure. SMITTY travels across country and eventually ends up in a shelter in Iowa where he is rescued by a young boy, Ben, and his Grandpa. SMITTY makes a positive change in the life of the entire family that adopts him, like so many rescued dogs could do if they were only given the chance.
